The first thing to note about this procedure is that it wont work if you have a dead battery and want to move.
Turns out there was a way to bypass the lock I think you had to remove the cover over the shift mechanism but having AAA made it not worth the trouble. Sounds like you can get to the back of your car and there is no longer a need for you to put it into neutral. I tried moving the key to the different positions but got nothing.
